Excellent post, Doug. Reminds me why one editor from your past once referred to you as the "Kobe Bryant of journalism." Point being that you could pull off a writing blog just as well.

You're confident in your decision and that's all that matters. It'll be nice having you around in the summer.

Congrats Doug! You've put a lot of thought and time into this decision. I know you will be great at whatever you put 100% of your effort behind. You are already an amazing photographer so I can't wait to see what the future hold. Best of luck and thanks for sharing!

Doug, this post reminds me of how much I used to love reading your blog on the AMLU website (I AM the wife of an umpire, after all). I almost forgot, with your amazing talent in photography, that you are a wonderful writer as well. Thank you for sharing this. I admire your courage to make this change- especially when the call was coming to move you up! Although I'm sorry to see one of Matt's good friends in the business go, I am WAY more excited to see what this does for your photography! (But imagine all the gossip you'll miss!)

Congratulations and good luck!

(We've never met, I'm just a fan of your photos!) Wish you all the best!

Sounds like you're on a great new path to me...(I left a job I loved in 2008 - grinding travel, burnout, and such were among the reasons. Some days are rough - I miss the routine of what I was good at doing - but I've had more days where I'm really happy about how things turned out. I wish the same - so many good days that make it easy to get through the tougher ones - for you.

All the best!
